National Visa

Documents Required

All documents must be recent (dated within 10 days) and presented in original with photocopies unless otherwise specified. Additional documents may be requested by the Embassy or Consulate if necessary.

Standard Documentation

Visa Application Form

• Completed and signed Austria National Visa (Visa D) application form.

Passport

• Must be signed, have at least two blank pages, and be valid for at least 90 days beyond the return date from Austria.
• Passports older than 10 years are not accepted.
• Photocopy of the bio page and any previous Schengen visas issued within the last three years (if applicable).

Photograph

• One recent passport-size colour photograph meeting Austria visa photo specifications.

Supporting Documentation

Proof of Funds

• Latest 3 months’ UK bank statements showing the applicant’s name, address, and sufficient funds to cover expenses in Austria. The statements must be dated within 1 week of application submission.
• Online bank statements with official authentication are also accepted.

AMS Work Permit

• Official work permit issued by Austria’s Public Employment Service (AMS), confirming the applicant’s approved employment.

Proof of Accommodation

• If staying with family/friends in Austria:
  • A signed and dated cover letter from the host, confirming the travel period and address of stay.
  • A copy of the host’s passport bio page.
  • If the host is a non-EU citizen, a copy of their valid Austrian residency permit.
  • Austrian registration certificate (Meldebestätigung) of the host.
• If staying in rented accommodation or a company-provided residence:
  • Rental agreement or employer-provided accommodation proof.
• In some cases, the host in Austria may be required to provide an Electronic Guarantee Letter (EVE), which must be obtained from the local aliens police (Bezirkshauptmannschaft, Bundespolizeidirektion, Bezirkspolizeikommisariat). The EVE ID number must be submitted along with the visa application.

Proof of Travel

• Confirmed return travel tickets mentioning the applicant’s name and travel dates.
• If travelling by car, provide:
  • Car registration and insurance documents.
  • Return ferry/Eurotunnel booking confirming vehicle registration.
  • Driver’s licence (if applicable).
  • If the applicant is not the driver, a signed cover letter from the driver must confirm joint travel.

Travel Insurance

• Comprehensive travel insurance covering the entire Schengen Area.
• Must include a minimum coverage of €30,000 for medical emergencies and repatriation.
• During winter (November–March), coverage for winter sports is mandatory.

Proof of Occupation

• Employed: Employer letter (signed and dated, less than 10 days old) confirming employment, along with the last three payslips.
• Self-Employed: Recent (less than 10 days old) official letter from an accountant, solicitor, or bank manager confirming business registration and financial standing.
• Student: A signed letter from a UK educational institution, confirming enrollment.

Photo Specifications

• Recent, colour passport-sized photograph.
• White or light background, no shadows.
• Neutral expression, no smiling.
• No sunglasses, hats, or head coverings, except for religious purposes.
• Must be glued to the visa application form.

If the submitted photograph does not meet these requirements, the visa application will be considered incomplete, and the applicant will be required to submit a new photo.
