Passengers traveling through Vienna International Airport on their way to a non-Schengen destination may require an Airport Transit Visa (Category A). This visa is required for certain nationalities who need to pass through the international transit zone of an Austrian airport but do not enter the Schengen Area.
Nationals from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sri Lanka, and Syria require an Airport Transit Visa when passing through an Austrian airport.
Passengers who do not leave the international transit zone of the airport during their layover generally do not require a visa, except for nationals of the above-listed countries who are not exempt.
